Anavrin’s Day is a Denver based cover band that was formed in 2018 by Jonathan Cernan (JC). His goal was to collaborate with other musicians to pay tribute to the grunge/alternative music he loves from the 1990’s. Wanting to be able to play some of the most difficult songs of the era, finding likeminded professional musicians was key. Spot on vocal harmonies and instrumentals is what makes an Anavrin’s Day performance stand out above the typical cover band. The set lists are influenced by the bands such as Tool, Stone Temple Pilots, Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden and so many more great bands and are guaranteed to get you rocking.
Veteran musicians in ’90s grunge/alternative tribute band aptly capture the intensity of the time A Tribute to ’90s Alternative, a newly formed band playing the best of 1990s grunge and alternative, will debut its unique takes on the tunes of the time’s legends – including Nirvana, Green Day, STP, Tool, Foo Fighters, Third Eye Blind and more – the name comes from Nirvana spelled backwards, combined with the second half of Green Day – is composed of veteran Colorado musicians who wanted to share their passion for the innovative music of the era. “We seek out the more intricate and hard-to-play songs from that period, which means that it’s critical that the musicians in the band are sharp and focused, and also able to nail the harmonies and more complicated instrumentals,” says band founder Jonathan “JC” Cernan, who sings lead vocals and plays both guitar and keyboards. “The group we have assembled does just that – not to mention that they also rock.” All of the musicians in Anavrin’s Day contribute to the vocals, but each offers a particular additional focus: · JC Cernan has been a regular presence in the Denver music scene solo and as keyboardist for the popular ’70s tribute band Mr. Majestyk’s 8-Track Revival. After taking his first piano lessons at age 5, he went on to play and sing as a solo artist at 15. After attending Baldwin Wallace University and the Cleveland Institute of Music, his pursuit of popular music led him to several a stint with the Cleveland-area band Auralis, followed by a move to Denver that connected him with Crimson Sky (later known as FalleN) and eventually Mr. Majestyk’s. · Denver native and guitarist Nick Valdez has a remarkably well-varied background in music, with heavy metal, rock, classical, jazz, reggae and more under his belt. The exceptionally productive songwriter has created original music for several Denver-area bands, including Aegri Somnia, A Harlem Sunset, and his own effort, Mad Pow. Valdez studied under Alex Komodore and Jeff LaQuatra while earning his degree in classical guitar from MSU-Denver. · Like Cernan, bass player Beau Juenemann has been playing piano since the age of 5, but he also trained in classical guitar and bass. Juenemann composes and plays for Mad Pow – billed as progressive-nerd-math rock – along with Valdez, but he has explored jazz, classical prog and punk, among other genres. He is in the process of completing his degree in classical guitar at MSU-Denver, studying with LaQuatra, as well. · Drummer Mateo MacDonald has been playing and writing songs in Colorado since he was in grade school. The music teacher – for 15 years, he has taught guitar, drums, saxophone and songwriting – was the lead guitarist for Kindred and the drummer for FalleN. MacDonald earned his degree in Music Performance from CU-Denver. On the heels of the Herman’s Hideaway debut show, Anavrin’s Day will play throughout the summer, including a July 20 all-’90s two-set performance at The Toad Tavern, culminating in a fall show Sept. 15 at the Oriental Theater. “It’s rare to find this caliber of talent devoted to the groundbreaking music of the 1990s,” says band manager Dave Fairbrother. “The impact on the scene at the time was significant and its effects have been long-lasting, and so it’s a real treat for Colorado to be able to hear it replicated by such pros.” The members of Anavrin’s Day are available for interviews; to schedule one or for more information, contact Bruce Kelly at 303-947-5490 or by email through the website.
We are four classically trained, full-time professional musicians that grew up in 90s and love the alternative rock and grunge of the era. We are all multi-instrumentalists and apply our craft to pay tribute to the music we love.
Our influences include Oasis, Pearl Jam, Green Day, Stone Temple Pilots, Sublime, Foo Fighters, Collective Soul, Soundgarden, Red Hot Chili Peppers and many more. We really enjoy performing new songs at each show and surprising our fans.
We've played dinner venues such as Nissi's in Lafayette to large ones such as The Oriental in Denver and many in between. Talent Buyer's, Promoters and Venue Owner's alike have shown their appreciation of our product by booking us for additional shows and inviting us to open for nationally touring acts.
We have a dedicated Band Manager that is not a musician. He focuses on the relationships within the music community, bookings and promotions. He handles all logistics and communications for shows to ensure everything goes smoothly. That has really helped us focus on the music.
Our goal is to become a premier regional act in Colorado and surrounding states.
